The BCCNP is the regulatory body that ensures public safety in healthcare by requiring that all nurses meet the minimum qualifications to hold a nursing licence and be employed in BC. The college is involved with certification of nursing education programs, collaboration with other professional bodies, and investigating complaints and any associated disciplinary procedures. BCCNP also provides resources to nurses such as tools for completion of annual self audits, learning plan templates, and educational.

The Health Professions Act is the provincial legislation that provides a common regulatory framework for B.C.'s regulated health professions. Under the HPA, regulatory colleges have the power and duty to oversee the practice of their registrants in order to protect public safety. This website contains the act, in its entirety, as well as definitions of terms used within the act.
