A little about me...
My name is Crystal and I am a registered psychiatric nurse. Since 2011, I have worked in a variety of hospital and community settings gaining experience in many psychiatric areas. Fascinated by psychology, psychiatry and criminology from a young age, I have gravitated to challenging roles working with vulnerable populations.

My professional role is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC). My role is to provide recommendations based on my psychiatric assessments, provide mental health care planning and treatment delivery, and provide crisis intervention to federal inmates. I work closely with an interdisciplinary team of professionals at CSC, with the common goal of making a difference in the lives of offenders.

My nursing philosophy is characterized by the cornerstones of my professional practice which are empathy, integrity, warmth and unconditional positive regard for those I have the privilege of working with. I strive to provide holistic and patient centered care which includes physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual wellness.
My professional aspirations include the pursuit of life long learning as well as educating future nurses. I am passionate about my profession and hope to share this passion with the next generation of RPNs. Accomplishing a master's degree is the next step in my journey. Recognizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration for best patient outcomes, is why I chose to pursue my Master's Degree in Health Studies from Athabasca University. Learning with, and from, other health professionals will broaden my horizons and bring shared knowledge from different disciplines with diverse perspectives.
The role of this portfolio is to develop my digital literacy skills by creating a tool that can be utilized throughout my master's degree studies and beyond. It will highlight my professional interests and accomplishments and serve as space where I can curate and share knowledge with other professionals.
